Ikumen and Japanese Fathers Who Take Child-Care Leave - September 27
It has been decided that the next eTLC meeting will be September 27. The topic will focus on a current supposed trend in Japan that was the focus of a recent article in the Yomiuri. According to the Yomiuri article, “a growing group of men dubbed ‘ikumen’--a play on the Japanese word ‘ikemen,’ which means a good-looking guy, and the word ‘ikuji,’ or child-raising--for whom rolling up their sleeves to help raise their children is just as much a priority--if not more so--than their job.”
This appears to be a good topic with the recent talk by the DPJ to give parents ¥25,000 a month per child as a way to promote the raising of children. Included with this discussion, we can look at the issue of male employees being encouraged to take “child-care leave” after the birth of a child.
Come to the next eTLC meeting and share your opinions about the man’s role in raising children. Simply, what do you think about it? Don’t be shy. Come and share your thoughts or come to find out what others think. Simply, we are more than happy to have you spend time with us.
Without a doubt, our meeting will be an excellent way to improve your English and a great excuse to join our pleasant group of members. Seriously, is there a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon?
