Next Niiza/West Tokyo Meeting is April 20
A hearty thanks to everyone who attended the March 16th meeting in Niiza. Education is not such an exciting topic usually, but we had a very productive and informative discussion. I think everyone who attended the meeting gained quite a lot from sharing our ideas. A special bonus, however, was that Rick Bales from JALT Omiya paid us a visit. Obviously, the topic was so stimulating that it brought him all the way from Saitama-shi. He really contributed a lot to the discussion by sharing some of the insights into the Japanese educational system that he gained by being a teacher in Japan for many years. Even more so, our members were very interested in hearing him talk about his hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba. One of our members was very surprised to hear this since she had spent 10 months in Winnipeg as a junior high school student. Another member had known some people from Winnipeg. Once again, we were confronted with how small this world can actually be.
Another thing that Mr. Bales did was to provide some information about the upcoming Nakasendo English Conference 2008. It will be held all day Saturday on June 21. It will be held at Seigakuin University. Click Nakasendo for more details or click on the link in our “Events in English” section. Since eTLC is one of the supporting organizations, we encourage everyone to attend. If anyone would like to volunteer to help out at the conference, please email or .
In light of the recent unrest in Tibet, there is some talk about boycotting the 2008 Summer Olympics. For April, we had decided to make the Beijing Olympics the topic for our meeting in April. Let us know if you have any good ideas about this topic. The meeting will be April 20. More details will be posted soon.
Please enjoy this nice spring weather. Forget about your hayfever, okay?
