Heat Island Tokyo - August 26
Being an interesting topic is about the only positive thing that has come from the heat wave we have been experiencing this summer. According to the Yomiuri Shimbun, “this summer may become the hottest ever in central Tokyo, as the average temperature from the beginning of August has been 29.2 C, the second hottest since the Meteorological Agency began recording temperatures in 1876, and the high temperatures are expected to continue until the end of the month” Summer 2007.
On August 26, the West Tokyo Chapter of eTLC will join together to complain about the heat and to discuss the phenomenon of the urban heat island (UHI). Specifically, we will look at some of the data that the Tokyo Metropolitan government has been collecting about UHI, discuss some of the measures that have been done to lessen the heat in Tokyo, and share our ideas about other ways to beat the heat.
If you want to get off of the “heat island” for a little while and enjoy the cool comfort of our meeting place while you exercise your English skills, join us on August 26!
