Tourism in Japan - October 26
In the past several weeks many difficult issues have dominated the news. These economic and political issues are important, but very difficult for us to discuss in English. Actually, they are the type of topics that make you want to run away and enjoy yourself. In light of this desire to get away, Kyodo News recently reported that “the Japan Tourism Agency was inaugurated Wednesday [October 1] to promote the nation’s tourism industry and increase the appeal of Japan to potential foreign tourists. The agency will help the government achieve its target of expanding the number of foreign visitors to Japan to 20 million in 2020 from 8.35 million in 2007, developing human resources in the travel industry and promoting intra-municipality collaboration to find new tour spots.”
In our October meeting, we will share our ideas concerning what may help increase tourism to Japan, what are some good locations to visit and some good activities to do, and what may be some of the positive and negative effects of increased tourism on Japan.
If you are interested in sharing your ideas or just want to find out what others think, please come to the October 26th meeting of the Niiza/West Tokyo chapter of eTLC. We are more than happy to have you join us.
Without a doubt, our meeting will be an excellent way to improve your English and a great excuse to spend a little time with our pleasant group of members. What better way is there to spend a Sunday afternoon?
