Kaleidoscope
Vickie Johnstone (author)
Take flight
I have always wanted to fly
In the yellow-orange glow of the setting sun
An eagle soars above the snarling sea
Where mountains tug against the bluest sky
He woops and sails on the rising draft
A view of the Earth few will ever see
Shadows rise between dots of people
We are so small against the wrath of nature
That rises and falls on the whim of the tide
In the yellow-orange glow of the setting sun
We live our dreams and drown in them
Where the eagle turns and flits and soars
He shows me why my dreams cannot be still
I have always wanted to fly
Moon beams
Distancing the days
In her fragile accolade
The moon reaches down
Towards coloured boats bobbing
Twinkling she shines
Lighting the way
For every stranger passing
And old friends returning
She travels the skies
In a silvery glide
Always remembering
The shortness of time
Summer
Silent summer meditates its walk
Dotting the horizon with soft talk
Waves scuttle at the shore’s toes
Escaping the cries of winged doves
Chaos stalks in its shy façade
Minute spectacle without fade
Blue skies echo the blue mood
Tunes forsaken into quietude
The hourglass dives into dawn
The breach of melancholy torn
Into the reaches of the enduring depths
Recoiling in terror from the silent deaths
The ocean invites nature’s born
The second sight before the dawn
Breaks the sky into a kaleidoscope
In colour of the dreamlike hope
