Take flight

I have always wanted to fly

In the yellow-orange glow of the setting sun
An eagle soars above the snarling sea
Where mountains tug against the bluest sky
He woops and sails on the rising draft

A view of the Earth few will ever see
Shadows rise between dots of people
We are so small against the wrath of nature
That rises and falls on the whim of the tide

In the yellow-orange glow of the setting sun
We live our dreams and drown in them
Where the eagle turns and flits and soars
He shows me why my dreams cannot be still

I have always wanted to fly

Moon beams

Distancing the days
In her fragile accolade
The moon reaches down
Towards coloured boats bobbing
Twinkling she shines
Lighting the way
For every stranger passing
And old friends returning
She travels the skies
In a silvery glide
Always remembering
The shortness of time

Summer

Silent summer meditates its walk
Dotting the horizon with soft talk

Waves scuttle at the shore’s toes
Escaping the cries of winged doves

Chaos stalks in its shy façade
Minute spectacle without fade

Blue skies echo the blue mood
Tunes forsaken into quietude

The hourglass dives into dawn
The breach of melancholy torn

Into the reaches of the enduring depths
Recoiling in terror from the silent deaths

The ocean invites nature’s born
The second sight before the dawn

Breaks the sky into a kaleidoscope
In colour of the dreamlike hope

Poems from a Beautiful Soul, 14 April 2011 - 5 stars

By Rebecca Johnson ‘The Rebecca Review’ (Washington State)

While reading “Kaleidoscope” I was instantly impressed by the fast-paced rhythm of the first poem. The rest of the poems were equally as appealing and they ranged from bright and cheerful to dark and ominous. A few poems talked of ghosts and death and even of magical fantasy places with wizards and maidens. But most of the poems have a subtle beauty to them. I loved the poem about a dragon fly which was very pretty. Then “Mog” is a cute poem about a cat. There is also a poem about a dog looking for a home which captivated me with its sense of longing. There are poems about lazy afternoons, teddy bears, memories of going to a fair as a child and thoughts of long-lost friends. I really enjoyed all the poems with water images in them especially “The Sparkling Sea.” There are also some funny moments like in the poem about monsters in the closet and thoughts about commuting. This poet loves playing with words and often the sound of the words seems more important than the meaning. Yet all the poems make perfect sense and are easy to understand. I liked the contrast between the light and dark poems and enjoyed reading about all the beauty we find in the world.

The book is structured under eight themes: figures; nature; abstracts; love; haiku; creatures; childhood and darkwave.

Product Description

This book is a collection of poems posted in cyberspace over eight months by Quenntis Ashby, Margaret Callow, Dawn Evans, William Holt, Zan McDowell, Mary Linda Miller and Ashen Venema (domiciled in Taiwan, England, South Africa, the USA and Barbados), all part of a unique poetic conversation on a writer’s website. The thread on which the poems were posted received over 26,000 views during its brief life, influencing the poets to publish this in order to make their poetry accessible to a wider audience. They may very well represent the root of a new imagistic movement within the global community – linked through technology where meaningful connections could be made, like-minded souls and friends-to-be, thousands of miles apart who had never met and probably would never meet, would move each other to create a new kind of sentimentalism that crosses oceans and mountains and barriers of sex, race, nationality, culture, education and class to create a modern representation of a humane society which could only be made possible through utilization of this amazing resource we call the worldwide web.
