Product Description

Toonopolis is a cartoon city that is home to the thoughts and ideas of all sentient beings in the universe. As the center of the Tooniverse, it acts as an other-worldly rest stop for these creations.

Gemini is a teenage human boy who is thrust into Toonopolis through his father's scientific research program. He loses part of himself in the process and immediately begins a quest to regain his lost memories with the help of his Tooniverse guide named Jimbob the Talking Eggplant.

After an altercation with a mysterious Shadowy Figure, Gemini's mission is changed, and he begins a new quest to defeat Shadowy Figure and protect Toonopolis from his nefarious destruction. Along the way, he meets new friends, discovers just how diverse and strange Toonopolis is, and learns lessons about compassion, forgiveness, redemption, and being true to oneself.

Review

Kate’s Review

What an incredible introduction to Jeremy Rodden’s work. This book seriously has it all: adventure, humour, twists and turns and characters that are loveable. On Goodreads this is billed as #1 in the Toonopolis series which after reading the first in the series makes me very very happy.

From the minute this book starts you are introduced to weird and fantastic characters, Jimbob the talking eggplant, Wan-Wan the metal Atika that can change into different animals as the situation requires and many other characters including the hero of the story Gemini.

Gemini is the product of an experiment which lands him in Toonopolis. He meets Shadowy Figure and sees the devastation that is being created in the cartoon world. This automatically grabs you and throws you into the adventure.

There are also case logs in the story written by Mimic who is an agent. He is the one monitoring Jacob’s movements in the cartoon world and is making notes. His final log insinuates that he will be the next person to step food into Toonopolis. I think this would be a very good idea for the next story.

I loved the way that the book was set out, it was very easy to read and I thoroughly got sucked into the story and found it hard to put down. I love the characters, especially Jimbob and Wan-Wan. I am thoroughly looking forward to the second book in this series.

I would give Toonopolis: Gemini 5/5
