Count to Ten
Sheila Mary Taylor (author)
Product Description
Few things worse can happen to a mother.
Count to Ten is a medical drama no mother will be able to put down.
An enthralling, uplifting true story of Andrew’s passionate battle for survival from life-threatening teenage bone cancer.
It started as a pain, that became a 'hot spot', that grew into a tumour, threatening Andrew's life and his dream to become a pilot. At the very least, his leg would have to be amputated, a chilling prospect in itself.
It is a testament to Andrew's passionate determination to pursue his adventurous dream in the face of death itself. A story that had to be told.

Review
By Fiona Smith for The False Bay Echo
“It is a strange anomaly of life that tragedy does not leave only sadness in its wake. It is as though nature feels she has a debt to pay after dealing a cruel blow.”
This is the story of Sheila Mary Taylor’s son’s life-and-death struggle with a rare form of cancer. But it is about much more than just a young boy getting cancer. It is the story of a young man struck down at his peak, just as he was finishing A-levels and when he had just won a prestigious Royal Air Force scholarship to learn to fly.
It is also much more than a story about a young boy getting cancer, and then against all odds, learning to fly; it is the story of a mother’s agony, her self-sacrifice and her guilt that “she must have done something wrong.”
Andrew Belshaw, diagnosed with osteosarcoma at 18, who bravely bore chemical and surgical procedures over a period of 10 years to save his life, is the subject of the book, but his mother, Sheila, is without doubt the protagonist.
In sometimes brutal passages of self-revelation Sheila shares her doubts, her fears, her ignorance and her mistakes. It is with her that we empathise as she, in her own words, makes a decision to devote her life to saving his life and helping him to save his own.
